Green Growth Forum, 10th September 2019
The 2nd Green Growth Forum, organized by the Green Finance Centre of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), will take place from 10-12 September 2019, in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. It aims at bringing together financial regulators, policy makers, senior members of financial institutions and other key stakeholders from the Asian region, as well as international experts from China, EU, UK and international organizations in order to discuss important issues impacting the green and sustainable finance development in the Central Asia.
Initiated in 2018, the Green Growth Forum has already become the main annual green growth event in Central Asia and the meeting point for green finance specialists across the world to exchange international experiences and best practices, to discuss barriers and options for green finance development in Central Asia.
In 2018, more than 300 participants from over 40 institutions gathered at the First Green Growth Forum, including representatives from Kazakhstani and foreign political circles, international organisations, financial and development institutions, and business communities.
Featured topics include global networks for a sustainable financial sector, innovative financing mechanisms for renewable energy projects, circular electronics, cyclical economy, gender policy in chemical and hazardous waste management, smart ecology for smart city, MSW management and urban prosperity, and new incentives for the development of the waste management industry.
International Seminar on Greening the Financial System of Central and South Asia, 11th-12th September 2019
The International Seminar on Greening the Financial System of Central and South Asia will be held from 11th-12th, September 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. As the 4th Global Green Finance Leadership Program (GFLP), this seminar is co-hosted by Tsinghua University, Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), with support from UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (UK BEIS).
This Seminar will focus on raising the awareness of green finance, exchanging international experiences and best practices, discussing barriers and options for green finance development in Central and South Asia. It will convene 100-150 financial regulators, policy makers, senior members of financial institutions and other key stakeholders from this region, as well as international experts from China, UK, EU and international organizations, with a view to creating and amplifying the momentum for the development of green and sustainable finance in Central and South Asia.
The GFLP was launched jointly by the Research Center for Green Finance Development at Tsinghua University (China) and the IFC-supported Sustainable Banking Network in 2018, in response to the growing global demand for knowledge exchange and capacity building on green finance. The GFLP serves a global platform to inspire innovation, scale up sustainable finance and facilitate the sustainable transformation of the global economy. The GFLP has hosted several global events in China and other countries since 2018, and attracted more than 500 participants from 54 countries, mostly developing and emerging economies. Participants of previous GFLP evets expressed strong interests of attending more or co-hosting similar events for their financial sector players in their own country or region that are willing to develop green and sustainable finance.
